Bauhaus building as set for new Israeli movie
A Bauhaus-building in the Dov-Hoz Street no. 8 was used a few weeks ago as set for a new Israeli feature: Snails in the Rain, directed by Yariv Mozer, produced by Hila Aviram and based on a short story by Yossi Avni Levy. Tel Aviv Laila Lavan – White Night – coming weekend
On June the 30th 2011 another Laila Lavan, ‘White Night’, will take place all over the city of Tel Aviv in celebration of the declaration by UNESCO (June 2003) that the inner-city of Tel Aviv will be a ‘World Heritage’ site. Dutch architects and engineers visiting Tel Aviv
Last Thursday, June 2nd, 61 Dutch architects and engineers did visit our city Tel Aviv. The 6-days Dutch Architecture Israel Excursion was organized by Ton Voets (Cultuurreizen.tv in Delft, Holland). I took 31 people from the group and showed them historic Tel Aviv (1909-1938). The Three Routes of Tel Aviv
As the Centennial Year draws to an end, one of its most special projects will be introduced in a weekend of walking tours…the so called Three Routes will be officially inaugurated on October 30th and 31st. The Three Routes are special walking trails which tell the story of the city trough three distinguishing colors: White, Blue and Green. The White Route goes through the White City and historic Tel Aviv. The Blue Route runs along the city’s coastline. The Green Route follows the Yarkon River and Ganei-Yehoshua. Each route includes key stations that highlight important sites and prominent inhibitants. The stations are marked by special solar-tiles (!). An other Bauhaus building sold
For the second time this month, a historic Bauhaus-building (1936) was sold to a group of investors. The building (560 square meters) on Dizingoff Street, near Frishmanstreet, was sold for NIS 21 million ($7 million). After the preservation and reconstruction works, the building will get three (!) more floors. The building will have, at the end, 24 apartments, each measures 55 square meters and two penthouses (sales-offers at this moment: $321.000 for an apartment). The two penthouse will be sold for nearly $2 million. The restoration architect will be Nitza Szmuk, who studied restauration in Florence. She fought for years, within-and outside the Municipality of Tel Aviv, for the Bauhaus buildings of Tel Aviv. Bauhaus-building sold for $2million
A Bauhaus-building (1936) in the Yehuda Halevie Street was sold yesterday to a privat investor for NIS 7.3 million ($2 million). The structure, 4 stories-high,was build on a land measuring 280 square meters. It was owned by an offshoot of one of the founders of the famous Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Intermediate Space Video Installation in Neve-Tsedek
On September 10th at 20.30 there will be large “Intermediate Space Video Installations” on the square in front of the Inbal Dance Theatre in the Neve-Tsedek neighborhood. This outdoor video-installation adress the space between ‘black and white’, between Tel Aviv “the White City” of Bauhaus modern architecture and its adoption of European ‘modernism’. It continues with a look at Tel Aviv of the Middle-East, including Jaffo and the southren neighborhoods. Curators are : Carmel Gottlieb Kimhi and Tali Navon. What about the UNESCO protection of our inner-city?
On the corner of Rotschild Boulevard and Allenbey Street is a big building-site at this moment. On this spot will arise an other, ugly high-rise tower: the so called ‘The Meir on Rotschild Tower’ designed by the American architect: Richard Meir. Unit prices in the 27 floor high tower will start (!) at 1.3 million Euro. ‘If I am not wrong’, this spot is within the inner-city of Tel Aviv, protected by the UNESCO as a World Heritage site?
