Restoration work former Ben Nahum Hotel started
I think every Tel Avivian knows this spot on the corner of Allenby Street 118 and Rothschild Boulevard: the beautiful building with this very special rooftop: the once Ben-Nahum Hotel, designed in 1921 by Tel Aviv’s first city-engineer Judah Magidovitch, who designed more then 500 (!) buildings in Tel Aviv, between 1919 and 1951. The Municipality of Tel Aviv started to build another (!!) enormous tower on the historic Rothschild Boulevard (the part between Herzl- and Allenby Street). Enough is enough, ain’t it??!! Solel Boneh arcade destroyed
An other historic icon in Tel Aviv is gone The Solel Boneh Arcade at Allenby Street no. 111, a covered passage-way, was designed in the 1950s by Dov Karmi and Arieh Sharon in a modernist style and came to symbolize the era. Within the arcade were 20 small businesses and the famous Tamar Cinema. The 3 upper-floors contained Soleh Boneh, once the largest construction in Israel, offices. The arcade was destroyed to make space for the 27 floors glass tower the American architect Richard Meir designed on the corner of Allenby- and Rothschild Boulevard. Foreign billionaire buys Tel Aviv flat for $7 million
Tel Aviv luxury towers continue to attract wealthy people from around the world. A Jewish billionaire purchased an apartment (600 square meters) at the new to build luxury tower at the Rothschild Boulevard no.17 (near Ahad-Ha’amstreet). The two old buildings (in the front of the tower) will be preserved. The tower will include 64 apartments. The land was purchased in February 2000 from the Banin family and the entire deal, including the land purchase, cost of construction and restoration of the two old buildings, is valued at….$121 million (!) … Read entire article »

At last men at work
For years and years, the 3rd ‘kiosk’ of Tel Aviv, on the corner of Rothschild Boulevard and Allenby Street was in a ‘shabby’ state. Nachum Gutman’s mosaic to Rothschild
The famous mosaic made by Nachum Gutman, once on Bialik Square, will find a place now on the western edge of Rothschild Boulevard near the ‘Africa Israel’ building. Pieces of the mosaic were temporarily placed in a Tel Aviv garbage truck parking lot (!!) due to the renovation of the Bialik square. The first ‘kiosk’ of Tel Aviv
If you live in Tel-Aviv, or you are a visitor, you have to visit the first ‘kiosk’ (1909) of Tel Aviv at the corner of Rothschild Boulevard and Herzl Street. The kiosk was restored in the year 2000 thanks to a gift by the Hackmey family. By the way, it is said that the kiosk serves the best espresso in Tel Aviv. … Read entire article »
