Entrances of Tel Aviv buildings by photographer France Lebee-Nadav
I did found an awesome article in ‘Haaretz Magazine’ written by Dalia Karper: ‘Lovable Anarchy’ about France Lebee-Nadav who did photograph for 20 years the entrances of Tel Aviv buildings - that no-man’s land that belongs to the yard and the street. “You don’t find spaces like this anywhere else” says France Lebee-Nadiv… Not even in her city of birth, Paris. [building entrances of the Moriem House, at Druyanov Street 1, designed by Reuben Mitelman (1938). Photo's by Frits … Read entire article »

Homage to Avigdor Arikha at Tel Aviv Museum of Art
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art will tribute a homage to the Romanian born Israeli painter Avigdor Arikha, who died last April the 29th. The exhibition will be in two parts. The first part, planned with the artist before his death, at the age of 81, includes illustrations to S.Y. Agnon‘s ‘A Stray Dog’ , woodcuts and drawings made during the 1950′s and represent Arikha’s development from the figurative to the abstracts. The second part presents 19 self-portraits: the earliest from 1948 and later ones with his image as a painter, working and observing himself, against the background of the studio and its surroundings. The latest portrait was made in 2001, in Arikha’s Paris studio, as he was approaching his 70th birthday. For more information: www.tamuseum.org.il … Read entire article »

White bike rental in Tel Aviv
I have been thinking and dreaming about riding a bike in Tel Aviv before, so the decision of the finance committee of the City of Tel Aviv-Yafo to put money in the bike rental system is great news! The first white bike plan ever has been ‘developed’ by students at the end of the sixties in Amsterdam (Ask Frits all about it. He was there! ;-) – ed.) and between then and now there have been several bicycle sharing systems in different countries, the last – Vélib – in Paris, France. They all had their problems, mostly concering vandalism and theft… In Tel Aviv hey will start with 1500 bikes and 150 stations, which will be 5250 bikes and 225 stations in 10 years. I really hope they succeed, because as I said … Read entire article »

On the rooftop of the Levine House
Last evening, at 19.30, there was a small VIP ceremony for the opening of the White Night Celebrations on the roof of the just (for the 2nd time) restored Beth Levine (The Levine House) at Rothschild Boulevard no.46. Among the guests the Deputy Mayor of Paris, Christophe Girard. It was Girard who started in 2003 (then Deputy of Culture of the Municipality of Paris) with the first White Night in Europe. ‘Chamber music‘ and lots of glasses of French wine and champagne made this rooftop party a wondeful event. Meanwhile the first thousands of people flocked Rothschild Boulevard for a swinging, beautiful White evening and night. … Read entire article »
