Film month in honor of Andrzej Wajda in Cinematheque TLV
Cinematheque Tel Aviv and the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv are screening the whole month of February the work of the most prominent Polish film director: Andrzej Wajda (1927). Four of his movies were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film: ‘The Promised Land’ (1975) , ‘The Maids of Wilko’ (1979) , ‘Man of Iron’ (1981 ) and ‘Katyn’ (2007 ). Historic Cinema Tel Aviv is gone…
The Cinema Tel Aviv, build in 1958, in the Pinsker Street, near Dizengoff Square, was destroyed last week. Another historic building is gone… On the same spot will the 18 floors Tel Aviv Cinema Tower arise (building cost $100 million). Sneak preview of Another World
Just came back yesterday evening from a sneak-preview of Another World, Israel’s first post apocalyptic action/horror film, directed by Eitan Reuven. They screened the so called Hangar scene.. Jaffa, a family-melodrama
The new feature Jaffa (Kalat Hayam), directed by Keren Yedaya, is screened, since last Saturday, in cinema’s all over Israel. It is Keren’s second feature. In this melodrama Mali Wolf , a Jewish girl has an secret affair with Toufik, an Arab boy from Jaffa. Mali is pregenant and they intend to go to Cyprus and get married… The plan is disrupted and the story starts to unfold… The main-cast in this powerfull drama are: Dany Ivgy, Moni Moshonov, Ronit Elkabetz, Mahmoud Shalaby, Lily Ivgy and Hussein Mahaine. The Infected in HaYarkon Park
Yesterday, a bright-sunny morning, was the 2nd day of combat-training of the so called ‘Infected’ (in HaYarkon Park, Tel Aviv) for the post apocalyptic action/horror film: ‘Another World’, directed by Eitan Reuven and produced by Shlomi Aviner and Eitan Reuven (art director: Monique Friedlander). I did find an bunch of young people (cast and crew) full with spirit and soul. It was the first time that some of the ‘Infected’ received their make up and the results were just awesome and…scary!! The shooting of the new feature will start on April 21st and will take place (most of the part) in Hod-Hasharon, a small place, north of Tel-Aviv. Ajami will be at the Oscars in 2010
Last night, Saturday 26th, (in Haifa) the movie Ajami, directed by Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani, took all (!!) the top-awards at the Israeli Ophir Awards ceremony. They beat their big rival Lebanon by Shmuel Maoz on all levels. Ajami about a neighborhood in Yafo, south of the Old City, received awards for: Best Screenplay, Best Music, Best Director and Best movie of 2009! A long, interesting article I did found in Haaretz Magazine (August 14 ) written by Ariel Hirschfeld about the new movie: Ajami, directed by Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani. The movie, about a neighborhood in Yafo, won the Wolgin Prize for best feature film this year at the Jerusalem Film Festival and a ‘”honorable mention” at the Cannes Film Festival 2009.
