Munich mounts Tel Aviv Centennial show

A new exhibition honoring Tel Aviv’s Centennial celebrations opened at the famous House of Architecture in Munich, Germany. The exhibition curator is Arieh Berkowitz and features his and artist Sergio Lerman‘s works. It will run until December 11th, 2009. The showing express a longing for the city of Tel Aviv old, romantic architecture, typical of the 1920s and 1930s. Sergio Lerman ‘s beautiful drawings of historic architectural buildings you will find also in a most interesting book called Born with Love (2004) with color drawings of the conservation of historical buildings of Ramat Gan, a suburb of Tel Aviv. … Read entire article »

The Three Routes of Tel Aviv

As the Centennial Year draws to an end, one of its most special projects will be introduced in a weekend of walking tours…the so called Three Routes will be officially inaugurated on October 30th and 31st. The Three Routes are special walking trails which tell the story of the city trough three distinguishing colors: White, Blue and Green. The White Route goes through the White City and historic Tel Aviv. The Blue Route runs along the city’s coastline. The Green Route follows the Yarkon River and Ganei-Yehoshua. Each route includes key stations that highlight important sites and prominent inhibitants. The stations are marked by special solar-tiles (!). Movie about Tel Aviv at Toronto Festival

Danny Lerner‘s new film: Kirot (“Walls”) will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. It will be screened in the so called City to City section, that will feature 10 films focusing on the cinema in Tel Aviv in honor of the city’s 100th anniversary. Kirot stars Bond girl Olga Kurylenko and Israeli singer Ninet Tayeb as two woman living across the hall from each other in an old apartment building in Tel Aviv. Larissa Riahi received the 2nd Tel Aviv Fever Heineken bottle

As we wrote on July the 8th, we made 6 Tel Aviv Fever Heineken bottles (3 are in Israel, 3 in Holland). The first one went to Eytan Schwartz, the ‘big guy’ of all the Centennial events. Our second bottle we gave to: Larissa Riahi. She is original from Amiens (France), studied graphic design. In 2000 she came for six month to a kibbutz as a volunteer. Back in France she studied Art. She missed the life in Israel and she decided in 2005 to make ‘aliyah’ (permanent resident), not for political or religious reasons, just because the love for Israel. BBC Radio 3 to celebrate Tel Aviv centennial

A program dedicated to Tel Aviv’s 100th birthday will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on July 12th at midnight (Israel time) and can be accessed trough BBC iplayer at: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer The program will be hosted by Tel Aviv born music expert and presenter Moshe Arad. Bauhaus 100% Tel Aviv

Tonight at Beth Levine

Tonight, at 19:30 there will be the official festive ceremony (invitation only) for the opening of the White Night Celebrations, with greetings by mayor  Ron Huldai and the Deputy Mayor of Paris, Mr. Christophe Girard. After their greetings the inauguration of the Tel Aviv’s Centennial Stamps will take place. Beth Levine, on Rothschild Boulevard no. 46 was designed in 1924 by the architect and Tel Aviv’s first City Engineer: Judah Magidovitch. The Tel Aviv Hall of Fame

Because of the Centennial celebrations in Tel Aviv, Time-Out magazine and Castro Fashion decided to put together: “The Tel Aviv Hall of Fame”: a compilation of 100 individuals, coined the Centennial Hundred. It honors the city’s luminaries – people who’ve shaped and molded its cultural and physical landscape from 1909 until today. Tel Aviv to open its houses

‘The Houses from Within Project‘ (www.batim-il.org) will allow the public to see some of Tel Aviv‘s architectural gems from the inside over the weekend of May 8-9. The event is being held in the framework of the city’s Centennial celebrations.
