View on Peace Wall from Peres Peace House

My co-editor Frits told me and wrote about it on our site before. He is an art and architecture lover and I am a photographer. But now I have seen it with my own eyes, being on a guided tour with Frits. For me it is official now: The Peres Peace House is ugly! There are more reasons for that: it is an ugly building (of 15 million dollars), that looks like an Amsterdam parking house it is difficult to clean and so dirty already it is facing the sea and not the streets of Jaffa / Ajami There is one big benefit since a few weeks and from yesterday. The backside of the building, designed by Italian architect Massimillana Fuksas, faces the Peace Wall, the great artwork of Arabic and Jewish children, in the form … Read entire article »

Tel Aviv to get first anthroposophic school

Tel Aviv will get for the coming school year the first Waldorf school in the country. Until now there were only dozens of antroposophic kindergardens around the country. Antroposophy, based on a spiritual philosophy, was founded in 1912 in Dornach (Switzerland) by Rudolf Steiner. They developed their own forms of architecture and already in the 20s had their own biodynamic agriculture, long before the so-called ‘green’ movements. In the Waldorf education on the schools, world-wide, all forms of art plays an important role. A building in Jaffa, dating from the Ottoman era, is currently undergoing renovation and repair work ahead of the September 1 opening. The school, at this moment, is not State supported, so the parents will pay between NIS 300 and NIS 1500 (depending on the earnings … Read entire article »

Museum or wedding hall?

The Tel Aviv Museum of Art will host another ‘society‘ wedding on its premises this month. It looks like that the museum-director prof. Mordechai Omer is using the museum the last few month as a private ‘playground’ for his elite-friends. Seven month ago he used the museum for the wedding of Erez Navon, the son of former president Yitzhak Navon (rent for the space was $25.000 ) and this month, January 25th, the wedding will take place of the daughter of Hanina Brandes (law firm Naschitz Brandes). I understand that the museum is using his premises for video-art parties, jazz-concerts e.g.: we are talking about art!! But what has a ‘society’ wedding to do with art? During the last wedding the museum closed its doors to the … Read entire article »
