Last tickets, please…
A fantastic article (“Last tickets, please”) I found in the Jerusalem Post of August 7 by Sybil Ehrlich about the old Central busstation (Oh, those memories..!!) of Tel Aviv. The Tel Aviv landmark ceased to exist last week. After 68 years (it opened in July 1941) the old Central busstation has been demolished. I remember it all…this crowded, noisy place, with his shouting and loud music from 10 different small shops. For my bus to Afula (my kibbutz was near Beth Shean) you had to go to one of the side-streets (I never forget this small record-shop on the corner). And then this toilets in this enormous, large ‘brown’ building… I can still ‘smell it’. Behind this ‘brown toilets-building, near the small newspapers (and the first ‘porn’ magazines in Israel ;-) … Read entire article »

Clothes like days
An interesting article about the fashion designer Michal Bassad, I did find today in The Jerusalem Post Magazine (July 17th 2009) written by Michal Lando and Mya Guarnieri. Michal says: “My clothes are very organic in that manner, they are not planned, they are intuitive…” and: “My design has become softer over the years…it’s not only about aesthetics, it’s about philosophy and life.” … Read entire article »
Tel Aviv Diary
Tel Aviv is a great place to be, I knew that. But I really had to acclimatize to it again… Not only the heat, but its pace, the way it smells and it’s noices… But it is absolutely great to be home… I started ‘running’ from day one because I wanted to suck it all into me. I am glad that it is shabbat now… Just for its rest… It’s been a few days that we put something on Tel Aviv Fever, just because of this acclimatizing. Frits and I have been talking a lot. We are there, do not forget about us. ;-) … Read entire article »

“Tel Aviv from the bottom of a coffee cup and a beer glass”
Yesterday, Friday 15th, I found this nice article in The Jerusalem Post by Ari Miller: “Two vices too few”. He wrote: “Tel-Aviv turns me on. From the beautiful woman to the nooks and crannies it has to offer, I can’t seem to get enough. Stuck between the Mediterranean coast and Israel, coupled with the malaise of life in general, this city, which combines the best of the First World with the exotic tragedy of the Third, is made livable for two reasons: coffee and beer. Let me explain…” [via Jerusalem Post Online] … Read entire article »

My own private Tel Aviv
Gideon Levy wrote a wonderful story in Ha’aretz (“My own private Tel Aviv”) about his childhood memories at Stand Street. “..I was sent to Meir’s to buy half a loaf of bread on credit; at Shaul’s I bought cartridges for our soda syphon. Both places had barrels of hering – I can smell them now……” … Read entire article »
