The Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo will spent another NIS150 million (30 million euro) in the next five years on building 150 km of new bike-lanes in the city. Fourteen years ago, Tel Aviv did not have even one bicycle path. As for today the city has more then 100 kilometers of paths, trails and lanes. According to a 2010 municipal poll, 38 percent of Tel Aviv residents own a bicycle.
The now familair green bikes in the city (the rental program Tel-O-Fan began last spring) have logged more then 280.000 (!) seperate rides. In the light of this enormous success (and therefore high demand) Tel-O-Fan will install 50 additional stations (with 500 more bicycles) around the city this year.
Another great effort by the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo, because everybody, who is walking the streets of Tel Aviv this days, knows that more bike-lanes are needed asap.

Since this month (May 2011) you can rent a bike in Tel Aviv, based on the famous Dutch “Witte Fietsen Plan” (White Bike Plan) (see our article before).
The Tel Aviv Municipality invested NIS 100 million ($25 million) in the so called: Tel O Fun rent a bike. More then 2.000 green bikes you will find at the so called ‘docking stations’ around Tel Aviv. The system works with credit cards (the Amsterdam bike plan in the 60s was free of charge). But, I have to say, it is not expensive in Tel Aviv: less then 30 minutes it is for free; from 31 minutes up to 90 minutes you have to pay just NIS 5 (about $ 1,50 / € 1,00 ) and for a FULL day, you pay only NIS14.- (about $ 4,00 / € 2,90)!!!
Tel Aviv: Kol HaKavod!

It is not the first time that Tel Aviv is chosen as a favorite destination, but now we are talking about a British Airways campaign to promote the city as one of ten good choices for a city break. We knew that already and telling everyone, but it is never bad to have another telling the same. ;-)
The campaign will have ads on the web, in the London underground and some important British newspapers. One of the strong points in the campaign is that the Tel Aviv atmosphere is reachable within five hours.
This is not the first time Tel Aviv is praised or ranked: one of the best beaches in the world, Tel Aviv: Miami of the Middle East and design hotel Montefiore that was ranked 23rd in a world hot list were there before.

Last Wednesday, October 13th, the first Tel Aviv Global City Forum took place at the Cameri Theatre, with local and international speakers and different workshops.
After the opening remarks of mayor Ron Huldai there were speeches by Chaim Shani, the General Manager of the Ministry of Finance, a speech by Hila Oren, the General Director of TLV Global City, an interesting speech by Jennifer Falk, the Executive Director of the Union Square in New York, who showed that you can change a once neglected square to one of the hottest spots in town. David Kaufman, a reporter from New York, told (this we support from the beginning with our Tel Aviv Fever website!!) that you have to look to another kind of tourism for Tel Aviv-Jaffa: the art-, architectural minded- and gay-tourists.
After the speeches there were 3 workshops on global cities: economy, culture and society.

As the Centennial Year draws to an end, one of its most special projects will be introduced in a weekend of walking tours…the so called Three Routes will be officially inaugurated on October 30th and 31st.
The Three Routes are special walking trails which tell the story of the city trough three distinguishing colors: White, Blue and Green.
The White Route goes through the White City and historic Tel Aviv.
The Blue Route runs along the city’s coastline.
The Green Route follows the Yarkon River and Ganei-Yehoshua.
Each route includes key stations that highlight important sites and prominent inhibitants. The stations are marked by special solar-tiles (!). Information about each station can be heard through any cellular device (!) by dialing: 054-4004414 and pressing the route and station number.
To download the maps of the routes for free, go to: www.tlv100.co.il
An other great project of the Tel Aviv 100 Years crew!!
Kol Hakavod…
