Kirot, a look at contemporary Tel Aviv

Last week the screenings started in cinema’s all over Israel of film-director Danny Lerner‘s new feature: Kirot (‘Walls’). His latest film is a look at a violent, contemporary Tel Aviv, starring Ninette Tayeb (the first winner of the Israeli ‘American Idol’) and Olga Kurylenk (the latest ‘Bond girl’ in ‘Quantam of Solace’.) Can’t you see I’m walking on air?

Thursday, December 24th at 20:00 will be the official opening of the exhibition: “Can’t you see I’m walking on air” in the Chelouche Gallery (Chissin Street no. 5). The group exhibition is within a year to Gideon Gechtman‘s demise (November 27th/2008) and is curated by Nira Itzhaki. Artists who will take part are: Ori Drummer, Gideon Gechtman , Ben Hagari, Erez Israeli, Miki Kratsman, Hila Luli Lin, Motti Mizrachi, Mira Segal and Gal Weinstein. The exhibition is a gesture to Gideon Gechtman’s (born in 1942 in Alexandria, Egypt ) unique artistic language, and his influences as it finds its expression in the works of the exhibiting artists through myths of death, memory and commemoration. Bar Refaeli graces cover of French travel magazine

Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli continues her unofficial role representing Israel abroad as she graces on the December cover (no.23/2009) of the French travel magazine: L’Officiel Voyage with the headline: “Tel Aviv avec Bar Rafaeli”. The 11 page spread article about Tel Aviv features some of the model’s favourite places in the city, including the Neve-Tsedek neighbourhood and the boardwalk. (The old Port of Tel Aviv). Munich mounts Tel Aviv Centennial show

A new exhibition honoring Tel Aviv’s Centennial celebrations opened at the famous House of Architecture in Munich, Germany. The exhibition curator is Arieh Berkowitz and features his and artist Sergio Lerman‘s works. It will run until December 11th, 2009. The showing express a longing for the city of Tel Aviv old, romantic architecture, typical of the 1920s and 1930s. Sergio Lerman ‘s beautiful drawings of historic architectural buildings you will find also in a most interesting book called Born with Love (2004) with color drawings of the conservation of historical buildings of Ramat Gan, a suburb of Tel Aviv. … Read entire article »

Yesterday, October 19th) I did find an interesting article in Ha’aretz about the sculptor Ya’acov Agam (81 years old) written by Ellie Armon Azoulay: Eating from the Tree of Knowledge.
