Israeli magician trying to keep warm feet
Hezi Din, an Israeli magician will try to set a new world record by sitting at least 64 hours in an ice cube that has a temperature below zero. He started today so he can leave the ice cube, which is located at Kikar Rabin (Rabin Square) in Tel Aviv, on New Year’s Eve. The Child Dreams
In Haaretz Magazine of Friday, December 25th, I did find a long, interesting article written by Doron Halutz about the composer Gil Shohat. Living in Jaffo with his partner Brian, the 36 years old Gil is the most prominent name on the classical music scene in Israel today. “This days he is working hard on a new ambitious composition for the Israeli Opera: The Child Dreams, directed by Omri Nitzan and based on a most poetic and lyric play by the late Hanoch Levin.” The NIS 7 million production of The Child Dreams, joined by dancers, acrobats, actors, a choir of nine female singers and dozen musicians, is conducted by David Stern. Kirot, a look at contemporary Tel Aviv
Last week the screenings started in cinema’s all over Israel of film-director Danny Lerner‘s new feature: Kirot (‘Walls’). His latest film is a look at a violent, contemporary Tel Aviv, starring Ninette Tayeb (the first winner of the Israeli ‘American Idol’) and Olga Kurylenk (the latest ‘Bond girl’ in ‘Quantam of Solace’.) Can’t you see I’m walking on air?
Thursday, December 24th at 20:00 will be the official opening of the exhibition: “Can’t you see I’m walking on air” in the Chelouche Gallery (Chissin Street no. 5). The group exhibition is within a year to Gideon Gechtman‘s demise (November 27th/2008) and is curated by Nira Itzhaki. Artists who will take part are: Ori Drummer, Gideon Gechtman , Ben Hagari, Erez Israeli, Miki Kratsman, Hila Luli Lin, Motti Mizrachi, Mira Segal and Gal Weinstein. The exhibition is a gesture to Gideon Gechtman’s (born in 1942 in Alexandria, Egypt ) unique artistic language, and his influences as it finds its expression in the works of the exhibiting artists through myths of death, memory and commemoration. This Sunday-evening, December 6th,the international premiere of Another Way, directed by Yariv Mozer, took place in the Cinematheque Tel Aviv. Another Way is a powerful, sometimes emotional documentary with a strong message. It is the story of Noa and Mira Awad, an Israeli Jew and Israeli Arab duo, who went to the Eurovision Songfestival 2009, during the last Israeli military operation in Gaza and strong resistance from the left and right in Israel.
