Ajami will be at the Oscars in 2010
Last night, Saturday 26th, (in Haifa) the movie Ajami, directed by Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani, took all (!!) the top-awards at the Israeli Ophir Awards ceremony. They beat their big rival Lebanon by Shmuel Maoz on all levels. Ajami about a neighborhood in Yafo, south of the Old City, received awards for: Best Screenplay, Best Music, Best Director and Best movie of 2009! Hiromi Uehara back in Tel Aviv
The Japanese Jazz-Fusion sensation Hiromi Uehara will be back in Tel Aviv for one show with her band Sonicbloom on November the 14th at Hangar 11 (21:15). For tickets: *8956. An other Bauhaus building sold
For the second time this month, a historic Bauhaus-building (1936) was sold to a group of investors. The building (560 square meters) on Dizingoff Street, near Frishmanstreet, was sold for NIS 21 million ($7 million). After the preservation and reconstruction works, the building will get three (!) more floors. The building will have, at the end, 24 apartments, each measures 55 square meters and two penthouses (sales-offers at this moment: $321.000 for an apartment). The two penthouse will be sold for nearly $2 million. The restoration architect will be Nitza Szmuk, who studied restauration in Florence. She fought for years, within-and outside the Municipality of Tel Aviv, for the Bauhaus buildings of Tel Aviv. The 3rd Tel Aviv Museum of Art party
The 3rd Tel Aviv Museum of Art party, Aman Bagan, last Thursday-evening, was again a big success (!!) with more then 1.500 guests, who enjoyed the video/art installations of Sigalit Landau, the swinging music of Dj Assaf Amdurski, the ‘hangdrummer’ Liron and the exotic bar from Dubnov 8. Ajami at the cinemas
The movie Ajami directed by Scandor Copti and Yaron Shani will be screened from today, Saturday September 19th, in cinema’s all over Israel. The movie, about a neighborhood in Yafo, received an “honorable mention” at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. Green Landscapes by Eliora Schwartz-Steimatzky
A new beautiful, romantic exhibition: Green Landscapes, made by Eliora Schwartz-Steimatzky, will open on September the 16th at the Givataim Theatre. (closing date: October the 9th). Eliora was born in Beit Hakerem, Jerusalem. She grew up in Tel Aviv. At the age of 17, she started to study (1965 ) at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem. After the army, she moved to New-York and worked for the art-publisher Harry N. Abrams. She continued her education in painting and sculpture at the League of New-York (1978 ). In the 1980s, she returned to Israel. Eliora Schwartz-Steimatzky returns the viewer to the mythical landscape paintings of Israeli artists of the 1950s and 1960s….works yearning to the Mediterranean scenery. More pop-giants are coming to Tel Aviv
Madonna‘s succesful shows, last week in Tel Aviv, have paid the way for more international top artists to follow her lead. Promotor Shuki Weiss declared today that he was so impressed by the sales of the two Madonna concerts (100.000 tickets) and said that the international music-world views Israel now as in important market (the 45.000 tickets for the concert of Leonard Cohen, September the 24th, were sold within 24 hours). Shuki said that Coldplay will perform in Tel Aviv some between May and June 2010 and U2 between June and September 2010. Coldplay had planned to perform in Tel Aviv this month, but due to busy performance schedule, decided to postpone the trip. … Read entire article »
Bauhaus-building sold for $2million
A Bauhaus-building (1936) in the Yehuda Halevie Street was sold yesterday to a privat investor for NIS 7.3 million ($2 million). The structure, 4 stories-high,was build on a land measuring 280 square meters. It was owned by an offshoot of one of the founders of the famous Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.
