The ‘Yekkes’ in Tel Aviv

Corner Ben-Jehuda Street / Allenbey Street in the 40s

A charming article I found yesterday in the Metro (Jerusalem Post, May 28th/2009) about the ‘Yekkes’ of Tel Aviv, written by Bracha Stork.
Yekkes was the nick-name for the Jews from German origin. (always, even during hot summer days, with their suits, ‘jacket’, on!!). Until today, you will find them in the small cafe-shops around Ben-Gurionstreet, still talking German ;-)
