Second day of the Centennial Conference

The second day of the ‘centennial conference on urban sustainability’ (April 2nd) at the Tapac-center, started with a lecture by Dutch (! ;-) ) architect Jacob van Rijs (MVRDV), about a masterplan in the Olympiakwartier (Olympia district) in Lelystad, which introduces a new urban density and variety into the city.
After his lectures there was a panel of city heads , mayors from different cities around the world.
I spotted a ‘special’ guest this day: architect and ex-municipal engineer Israel Godevitch.
Godevich had a short period within the muncipality; he resigned in November 1999, after some ‘improper procedure’.
Yes, it is true: Godevich had a big mouth; yes is it is true: Godevich wasn’t an easy person to work with, but Godevich had great visions, some realistic, some utopian , but you can say what you want of him….he was original!!!
